「転石苔むさず」。

元来、苔の成長は肯定的に捉えられ、ある場所に定住すると、文化・知識・技術などが生まれるという、良い意味の諺であったようです。

しかしながら最近は、一カ所に留まると、さび付いて革新性が無くなるという否定的な意味の諺として理解されています。

言葉も時代と共に意味やニュアンスが変化していきますね。

「ビジネスで使える英語のことわざ・名言」（IBCパブリッシング株式会社）という本に収められている諺ですが、その説明書きとして以下の様な文章も添えられています。

Only by staying in one place and taking responsibility could one develop the important characteristic of human beings. If one was constantly in motion, jumping from place to place, that person would end up producing nothing of significance.

In the newer interpretation, "moss" is symbolic of stagnation and lack of ingenuity. In this understanding of the proverb, remaining mobile and agile and trying new things prevent a person from getting "rusty" or "bogged down".
